|

|
(1) Use a blank space to separate keywords.
(2) You may enter up to a maximum of ten (10) keywords. However, the more keywords you enter, the longer it may take to retrieve your search results.
(3) A keyword search will return all records that contain the sequence of characters entered. For example, searching 'hat' returns results with any word that contains the characters. This includes 'hat', 'hats', 'chat', 'shatter', 'that', 'what' or 'whatever'.
(4) You may search for specific phrases. Enclose the phrase in double quotation marks.
(5) You may also search for keywords and specific phrases within the same search. Separate keywords and phrases with a blank space and enclose phrases in double quotation marks.
Examples of Keyword Searches:
bottle - searches for records containing the word 'bottle'
dairy bottle - searches for records containing the word 'dairy' OR
'bottle'
milk dairy bottle - searches for records containing the words 'milk'
OR 'dairy' OR 'bottle'
"cultural arts" - searches for records containing the
phrase "cultural arts"
"cultural arts" "william james" - searches for
records containing the phrases "cultural arts" OR
"william james"
collect "cultural arts" - searches for records containing
collect OR "cultural arts"
collect "cultural arts" larry - searches for records
containing collect OR "cultural arts" OR larry

About Advanced
Searches
The advanced search page provides you with the ability to further refine your search results. For ALL advanced searches, it is mandatory that you select both a "Type of Search" and a "Collection Name" before selecting one or more of the optional search criteria (i.e. keyword, title, author, and/or date range).
Examples of Advanced Searches
(1) Search a collection "Larry Becker Collection"
(2) Search a collection "Larry Becker Collection" and search by
keyword "hockey"
(3) Search a collection "Larry Becker Collection" and search by title
"spoon"
(4) Search a collection "Larry Becker Collection" and search by
author "Whitehead and Hoag Company Limited"
(5) Search a collection "Larry Becker Collection" and search by date
range "From: 1813 To: 1818"
(6) You may also create compound searches, for example search a
collection "Larry Becker Collection", search by keyword "pamphlet"
and search by date range "From: 1903 To: 1940".

About Search Options
An optional search field where you may search by a specific keyword, title or author in combination with a Collection and/or Date Range search.
About Date Ranges
An optional search field where you can search by a specific date range in combination with a Collection and/or a keyword, title or author search.
When performing a Date Range search the following conditions apply:
a) A "From" date is mandatory.
b) If a "From" date is entered but no "To" date is entered then the "To" date defaults to today's date.
c) Date should be entered as "month day year" or "year" alone.

Search
Results Page
The Search Results page displays thumbnail images of all the objects where records match the search criteria. Below each thumbnail image there are three links:
a) View larger image & details takes you to a page showing a full-sized image of the object with all its data.
b) Show Related Items takes you to a new search results page showing additional views of the current object and/or other objects that pertain to the current object.
c) View details only takes you to a page showing just the data on the object
