Aerospace Campus/Cluster Takes Flight - Creating Jobs and Innovation for the Future and Unlocking the Value of Downsview's Employment Lands

Committee Recommendations

The Economic Development Committee recommends that:

 

1.         City Council endorse the development of an aerospace campus cluster within designated employment areas of Parc Downsview Park, subject to the appropriate public planning approval process.

 

2.         A Working Group be struck comprised of staff from the City Manager's office, Economic Development & Culture, City Planning, and Real Estate Services, to work in concert with Build Toronto, Parc Downsview Park, Centennial College, University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies, Bombardier Aerospace, Department of National Defense, Toronto Transit Commission, in consultation with City Councillors from Wards 8, 9 and 10, and other stakeholders as deemed appropriate and necessary, with a view to advancing the development of an aerospace campus cluster within designated employment areas of Parc Downsview Park.

 

3.         City Council reiterate its support for the growth and expansion of the aerospace sector  and re-invigorate efforts to promote the City of Toronto and region as a world-class centre of excellence for aerospace.

 

4.         City Council request the Federal and Provincial governments to support the development of an aerospace campus cluster within designated employment areas of Parc Downsview Park.

 

5.         The Working Group referred to in Recommendation 2 be chaired by the local Councillor.

 

6.         City Council request staff to report back to the Economic Development Committee, as soon as possible, with an overview of the City's aerospace cluster, and that the report be made available to the aerospace cluster working group.

1.         That the Working Group mentioned in Recommendation 2 of Councillor Thompson's motion be Chaired by the local Councillor.

 

2.         That staff report back to the Economic Development Committee with an overview of the City's aerospace cluster and that the report be made available to the aerospace cluster working group.
