Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council referred the letter dated March 30, 2011, from Councillor Joe Mihevc, respecting a pilot project to allow for extended patio hours in Ward 21, to the Acting Manager, Licensing Services, Toronto and East York District, Municipal Licensing and Standards, for consideration and report to the Toronto and East York Community Council.

Origin

(March 30, 2011) Letter from Councillor Joe Mihevc, Ward 21, St Paul's West

Summary

Given the growing patio culture in Ward 21, I request support from Toronto and East York Community Council for a pilot project to allow for extended hours of operation for boulevard cafes.

The change would see the extension go from 11:00 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (only on long weekends) from the beginning of May to the Thanksgiving weekend.

I would further request Municipal Licensing and Standards' staff to report back in the Fall/Winter 2011/12 on the pilot with appropriate recommendations.

The pilot areas would include:

1.         Upper Village BIA (Eglinton Avenue from Bathurst to Allen Road);

2.         Forest Hill BIA (390 to 464 Spadina Road);

3.         Wychwood and Hillcrest BIAs (St. Clair Avenue from St. Clair West station to Winona Drive).
