Committee Decision

The Public Works and Infrastructure Committee referred the item to the Acting General Manager, Transportation Services, for a report to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee

Origin

(June 14, 2012) Member Motion from City Council

Summary

As cycling continues to grow as a convenient, efficient, and carbon neutral transportation option in the City, it is important that pathways and access points to our waterfront are designed to facilitate cycling.  At present there is not a safe and convenient route to the Lower Don Recreation Trail for cyclists east of the Don River.

Introducing a cycling trail beginning at Sunlight Park Road and extending down the eastern side of the East Don Roadway would provide at-grade access to the Lower Don Recreation Trail and allow cyclists and people using mobility devices a safer entry point to the Port Lands and the wider waterfront. Much of this route would run on public lands minimizing costs to the City.
