City Council Decision

City Council on June 10, 11 and 12, 2015, adopted the following:

 

1.  City Council amend Section 636-7B of Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 636, Public Squares, to read as follows:

 

"The Ward Councillor shall cease to be a member of the Board upon ceasing to hold the office of City Councillor for Ward 27. The other members on the Board shall be appointed for a term specified by Council, serve at pleasure of Council until their successors are appointed, and be eligible for reappointment. The members of the Board shall be appointed and hold office subject to and conditional upon their observance of and compliance with the provisions of this article."

 

2. City Council appoint the following candidates to the Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on December 31, 2016, and until successors are appointed:

 

- Andreas Kalogiannides

- Rahim Moosa

 

3. City Council appoint the following candidates to the Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018, and until successors are appointed:

 

- Michael Fenton

- Michael Ma

- Jan Mollenhauer - Chair

 

4. City Council appoint Sheila Jennings and Najib Rahma as the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area representatives to the Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018, and until successors are appointed.

 

5. City Council appoint Ian Gemmell as the local resident's association representative to the Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018, and until a successor is appointed.

 

6. City Council appoint Trisha Rinneard as the Ryerson University representative to the Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018, and until a successor is appointed.

 

7. City Council direct that the confidential information contained in Confidential Attachments 1, 2, and 3 to the report (May 15, 2015) from the City Clerk remain confidential in their entirety as they relate to personal matters about identifiable individuals being considered for appointment to the Yonge-Dundas Square Board of Management.

Appointees' biographies:

 

Michael Fenton

 

Mike Fenton is a strategically-focused senior executive with a proven record of building added value brands in the private and non-profit sectors. He has held executive roles in the philanthropic industry with national, regional, and international organizations where he has developed expertise in the education, health, social services, advertising/communications, and government relations sectors. A lifelong Toronto resident, Mike has held various board positions, most recently with George Brown College.

 

Andreas Kalogiannides

 

Andreas Kalogiannides, a Toronto native, is a business, intellectual property, and entertainment lawyer. He is a board member of various organizations, including the Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council where he is currently the Chair – Financing, Funding and Sponsorship. Andreas holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy and Law, Double Major) from York University, an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, and a Master of Arts degree (International Affairs) from Carleton University.

 

Michael Ma

 

Michael Ma has worked in the IT industry for more than thirty years in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and the Asia Pacific. He has experience in a range of industries, including airlines, banking, insurance, and health care. Michael is passionate about volunteering and has served on many non-profit and university boards, including the Mon Sheong Foundation Private Care, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and the Canadian International School. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

 

Jan Mollenhauer

 

Jan Mollenhauer is a marketing professional with more than 30 years in the advertising and consumer packaged goods industries. She has a diverse business background leading marketing development and managing business units in Canada, the U.S., and globally. A graduate of Queen's University in Economics, Jan also holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. She has volunteered in her local community and with leading Canadian health organizations.

 

Rahim Moosa

 

Rahim is a Senior Director for the CIBC Digital Channel and is responsible for online, mobile, and overall sales strategy. He has spent his career in management consulting where he has developed customer experience-focused strategies and roadmaps in multiple industries, including telecommunications, hi-tech, retail, financial services, and travel. Prior to consulting, he worked at Apple Inc. as part of their global online store team. Rahim has served on the Yonge-Dundas Square Board since October 2011.

 

Interest Group Members:

 

Ian Gemmell

 

Ian Gemmell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, educated at the Edinburgh College of Art, and emigrated to Canada in 1963. He has worked in the architecture and appraisal departments for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, as the Vice-President of Mortgages for a large trust company, and as the owner of a graphic design company. Ian now works as a real estate agent. He has served as the local resident's association representative on the Yonge-Dundas Square Board since October 2011.

 

Sheila Jennings

 

Sheila Jennings joined Cadillac Fairview in 2005 and has worked as the General Manager at four of its shopping centres, including Shops at Don Mills – the first urban outdoor shopping village – and, most recently, at its flagship property – the Toronto Eaton Centre. She has interacted with various groups throughout her career, including office and retail clients, developers, and homeowners. Sheila is one of the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area's nominees on the Yonge-Dundas Square Board.

 

Najib Rahma

 

Najib Rahma is the Chief Operations Officer of HNR Properties Ltd. and the Director of HNR Dundas Square Tower. Najib leads a team which manages a mixed retail/commercial portfolio of approximately 160,000 square feet in the heart of downtown Toronto. He is passionate about the City's growth and development and is excited to become more involved in the community. Najib is one of the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area's nominees on the Yonge-Dundas Square Board.

 

Trisha Rinneard

 

Trisha Rinneard currently works as the Manager of Government Relations at Ryerson University. She previously worked at Queen's Park for Tim Hudak, MPP and former Leader of the PC Party in progressively senior roles, including Executive Assistant, Director of Operations, and Director of Tour. Trisha holds an Honours BA from Queen's University and a Post-Grad Certificate in Public Administration from Humber College. She is Ryerson University's nominee on the Yonge-Dundas Square Board.
