Community Council Decision

Etobicoke York Community Council:

1.  Requested the Director, Transportation Services, Etobicoke York District, to re-install the temporary traffic signal at Lake Shore Boulevard West and Forty Second Street within 30 days.

Origin

Summary

A temporary traffic signal was installed in 2014 at Lake Shore Blvd. W and Forty Second St. to accommodate increased pedestrian traffic as a result of construction on the path linking Maurice J. Breen Park with Marie Curtis Park under Lake Shore Blvd. West. The Long Branch GO Station and Royal Canadian Branch 101 are also adjacent to this intersection, and those patrons have come to rely on the safe crossing.

On October 5, 2015, the traffic signal was removed with no notice given to my office, the surrounding community, the Legion, or the Long Branch GO Station users.

At my request, Transportation Services undertook an emergency study and found that crossing protection is warranted at this intersection, however, a new permanent signal will take over a year to install.

To ensure the safe crossing of pedestrians until such time that the permanent signal can be approved, installed, and activated, I am requesting that the temporary traffic signal be reinstated immediately.
