The Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council:

 

1.  Formed six working groups with the following membership, group leads and priorities with the expectation that a music strategy will be presented for City Council's consideration in the Fall of 2015:

a.  Business Development Working Group

Priorities:

- Create a music friendly environment

- Identify physical assets to set benchmarks and identify impediments to assets

- Identify business case for changes in the City to support sustainability of the industry

- Create a database of statistics

- Hold a public town hall in September to collect public input on music strategy

- Review provincial music strategy

Decision Advice and Other Information

The Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries, and the Music Sector Development Officer gave an update on the priorities and workplan for the Toronto Music Industy Advisory Council.

Summary

The Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council will consider its priorities and workplan.

 

To support the Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council’s priorities, and to maximize resources and improve efficiency in carrying out its workplan, members will undertake activities and research in support of each of the workplan initiatives, including forming specific task-oriented working groups.

 

Workplan initiatives include the following tasks identified by Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council's (TMAC) Strategic Planning group:

 

Business Development:

  Create an asset list

  Leverage civic venues and City resources

  Explore music opportunities during the Pan Am / Parapan Games

  Support existing music festivals and address new opportunities

  Identify AND increase performance and networking opportunities

 

Branding, Marketing and Tourism:

  Help create / identify Toronto’s music brand

  Leverage Toronto’s tourism resources

  Identify opportunities to communicate music message

 

Advocacy:

  Help sell the value of music

  Advocate for music education / youth programs and increased arts funding

  Help improve artists’ standard of living

 

International Alliances and Partnerships:

  Maintain and grow Austin Alliance

  Identify and work on new international partnership opportunities

  Help ensure Toronto has presence at key international events

 

Financing, Funding and Sponsorship:

  Find funding to execute TMAC plans

  Explore corporate sponsorship opportunities

  Fund TMAC branding campaign

  Fund large and small opportunities

 

Strategic Planning:

  Help create, update, and oversee TMAC structure and governance

  Assist with compiling music-industry metrics and measurement
