Summary
The attached bulletin summarizes the results of the 2014 Toronto Employment Survey by highlighting the key findings and trends pertaining to employment by sector, the longevity of establishments, and employment activity in the Centres, Downtown and Employment Districts.
Toronto’s economy has performed well over the past year. The recovery from the impacts of the global recession continues, with employment reaching 1,384,390 jobs; a net addition of 20,850 jobs since 2013 and 127,450 jobs over the past decade. The City experienced a 1.5 percent increase in employment this past year, exceeding both the national and provincial growth rates.
The number of establishments surveyed in 2014 was 75,180, a net gain of 430 or 0.6 percent since 2013. Of the total, 5,030 establishments were new to the City in 2014.
