City Council Decision
City Council on October 2, 3 and 4, 2017, adopted the following:
1. City Council request the City Manager to review the policies and report to City Council with recommendations for improvements to the policies which will both hold accountable and equip event organizers and managers to assess any symbol or flag, including the Confederate flag, used to promote hate, and to remove them from events or City property.

Speaker Nunziata advised Council that the provisions of Chapter 27, Council Procedures, require that Motion MM32.21 be referred to the Executive Committee. A two-thirds vote of the Council Members present is required to waive referral.

1. City Council request the City Manager and the City Solicitor to report on the feasibility of banning the display/use of the Confederate flag on any City property and at events.
and adopt instead the following:
1. City Council request the City Manager to review the policies and report to City Council with recommendations for improvements to the policies which will both hold accountable and equip event organizers and managers to assess any symbol or flag, including the Confederate flag, used to promote hate, and to remove them from events or City property.
