Board Decision

The Toronto Preservation Board recommends to the Toronto and East York Community Council that:

 

1. City Council delete all recommendations in the report (April 6, 2018) from the Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning, and replace with the following recommendations:

 

1. City Council refuse the alterations to the heritage property as contained in the plans and drawings prepared by Sweeny and Co. Architects dated August 30, 2017, on file with the Senior Manager, Heritage Preservation Services, and the Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) prepared by ERA Architects Inc. dated September 8, 2017.

 

2. City Council direct the Senior Manager, Heritage Preservation Services to revaluate the cultural heritage value of 58 Atlantic Avenue and identify additional attributes related to the Ontario Wind Engine and Pump Company factory including all existing buildings on the property and report to the Toronto Preservation Board and City Council prior to the approval of the related Zoning By-law Amendment.

Summary

This report recommends that City Council designate the property at 58 Atlantic Avenue under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, endorse the conservation strategy generally described for the property and grant authority to enter into a Heritage Easement Agreement (HEA) with the owner of the property. The property at 58 Atlantic Avenue is listed on the City of Toronto's Heritage Register. The applicant is proposing to alter the property by constructing a 10-storey office complex while fully retaining and conserving the historic Ontario Wind Engine and Pump Company Building.
