Committee Decision

The Public Works and Infrastructure Committee:

1. Requested the General Manager, Transportation Services to work with the Chief Transformation Officer and the Chief Purchasing Officer to address any gaps or bottlenecks in the tendering and awarding of curb cut contracts to ensure that:

a. Contracts are awarded by April 15, so work may begin in early spring, weather permitting; and

b. The process is customer-focused and more transparent.

Summary

Last year, dozens of Ward 16 residents were told that their curb cuts would be completed in the fall, 2017. Once the fall deadline passed, these same residents were assured by Transportation Services that the work would take place in the spring of 2018. With delays to preparing tender documents and issuing contracts, as of late June 2018, residents are still contacting my office unsure of when the work will be completed.

These recommendations would have the General Manager (GM) Transportation Services work with the Chief Transformation Officer and the Chief Purchasing Officer in order to ensure the process for curb cut repairs is efficient and more transparent. Customers should be given accurate updates regarding their applications and have a better understanding of the process they are paying into.
