Community Council Decision
The Toronto and East York Community Council:
1. Reduced the speed limit on Winona Drive, between Tyrell Avenue and Davenport Road, from 40 km/h to 30 km/h.
Origin
Summary
The current speed limit on Winona Drive, between Tyrell Avenue and Davenport Road, is 40 km/h. However, this busy stretch of the road is heavily used by motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike. The Hellenic Home for the Aged senior's home on this block is home to over 200 seniors, many of whom routinely walk and cycle on Winona and the neighbourhood at large.
While concerns over excessive speeding and the request to lower the speed limit have been brought to our offices' attention this year, they were flagged with Traffic Operations previously and staff recommended that the speed limit be lowered to 30 km/h. However, due to the unexpected changes to ward and district boundaries in 2018, this recommendation never made it to the Toronto and East York Council agenda. After consulting with Traffic Operations again, we are bringing forward the request to lower the speed limit on Winona Drive, between Tyrell Avenue and Davenport Road, from the current 40 km/h to 30 km/h.
