The Toronto and East York Community Council:
1. Directed staff to provide more crossing time in the north-south and east-west directions at the Shuter and Parliament street intersection by reducing the default walk speed to 0.9 m/s.

Summary
A petition was submitted to the City of Toronto with over 100 signatures expressing concern for the safety of pedestrians at this intersection. The petition requests the improvement of cross time on the pedestrian countdown signals at Parliament Street and Shuter Street.
The current default walk speed at this intersection is 1.0 m/s. Given that this intersection is used by many older pedestrians, there is a need to provide more crossing time in the north-south and east-west directions by reducing the default walk speed to 0.9 m/s.
