Summary

I would like to share with Toronto City Council the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) latest Report for municipal councils, FCM-Report-to-Council-Nov2021.pdf.

As a committee member, I am pleased to serve on the Social-Economic Development Standing Committee with Deputy Mayor Ana Bailão and the Municipal Finance and Intergovernmental Arrangements Standing Committee with Councillor Nick Mantas. The City's other members on FCM are Councillors Lai, who serves on the Board, and Councillors Bradford and Perruzza who sit as committee members.

I am continuing to work with FCM and the City Manager’s Office in my determination to advance digital affordability across all municipalities in Canada.  This issue was heard at the September 2021 Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation Policy Standing Committee, which requested that FCM staff develop a policy position on digital affordability for the Committee’s consideration in March 2022.

I have also put forward a recommendation for FCM to investigate a federal leadership role in the collection of Canada-wide data related to homeless deaths, a practice the City of Toronto has implemented through the homeless death database. This is to be tabled at the upcoming FCM meeting in March 2022.

The City of Toronto posts the reports on the FCM Board of Directors meetings at https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/accountability-operations-customer-service/city-administration/city-managers-office/intergovernmental-affairs/federation-of-canadian-municipalities-translate/
