CC43.1 - Reassigning the Powers of the Mayor under Chapter 3, Accountability Officers and Chapter 59, Emergency Management

Recommendations

That City Council:

 

1.         Amend Chapter 59, Emergency Management to provide that the Deputy Mayor assume those powers and duties that have been delegated by City Council to the Mayor under its own authority, to be in effect until November 30, 2014.

 

2.         Amend the selection process provisions of Chapter 3, Accountability Officers, to provide that the selection panels are appointed by the Deputy Mayor and chaired by the Deputy Mayor or the Deputy Mayor's designate, to be in effect until November 30, 2014.

 

3.         Introduce and enact any necessary bills.

Summary

In accordance with the provisions set out in Section 191(b) of the City of Toronto Act, 2006 and Section 27-30 of Chapter 27, Council Procedures of the City of Toronto Municipal Code, a petition signed by 24 Members of Toronto City Council has been submitted to the City Clerk to set the date, time and purpose for a special meeting of City Council.

 

The motion outlined in the petition proposes to reassign the powers of the Mayor under Chapter 3, Accountability Officers, and Chapter 59, Emergency Management, to the Deputy Mayor until November 30, 2014.
