Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council:

 

1.         Approved the closure of the sidewalk on the north side, and the parking and bicycle lanes on both sides of Shuter Street, between George Street and a point 38.4 metres west of George Street, from August 13, 2014 to August 31, 2015.

 

2.         Rescinded the existing permit parking regulation on the north side of Shuter Street, between George Street and Jarvis Street.

 

3.         Rescinded the existing Pay & Display parking regulation on the south side of Shuter Street, between George Street and Jarvis Street.

 

4.         Enact a "No Stopping Anytime" prohibition on the south side of Shuter Street, between Jarvis Street and a point 44.0 metres east of George Street.

 

5.         Enact a "No Stopping Anytime" prohibition on the north side of Shuter Street, between Jarvis Street and a point 14.3 metres east of George Street.

 

6.         Authorized the General Manager of Transportation Services to request the alteration and/or removal of the proposed staging area, if required, to accommodate the Pan Am festivities during the months of July and August 2015.

 

7.         Directed that Shuter Street be returned to its pre-construction traffic and parking regulations when the project is complete.

 

8.         Directed the applicant to post a 24-hour monitored construction hotline number on the hoarding board, which must be prominently placed and legible from 20 metres and on all elevations from the construction site.

 

9.         Directed the applicant to provide and install public art, including mural artwork, onto every elevation of the hoarding board with adequate spotlighting for night-time illumination, at their sole cost, to the satisfaction of the Ward Councillor.

Summary

This staff report is about a matter for which Toronto and East York Community Council has the delegated authority from City Council to make a final decision.

 

Bondfield Construction Company Ltd. is constructing a 14-storey condominium at Nos. 102-110 Shuter Street, on the northwest corner of Shuter Street and George Street.  They need to close the north sidewalk, the parking lanes and the bicycle lanes on Shuter Street in order to do their work.

That the Toronto and East York Community Council adopt the recommendations in the report (July 17, 2014) from the Director, Transportation Services, Toronto and East York District, subject to adding the following new Recommendations 8 and 9:

 

8.         Directed the applicant to post a 24-hour monitored construction hotline number on the hoarding board, which must be prominently placed and legible from 20 metres and on all elevations from the construction site.
