City Council Decision

City Council on November 7, 8 and 9, 2017, adopted the following:

 

1.  City Council authorize the Chief Financial Officer to make the necessary adjustments to the 2017 Non-Program Expenditure Budget and Operating Budget of the Toronto Fire Services to reflect provisions of the Interest Arbitration Award.

 

2.  City Council direct that Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (September 15, 2017) from the City Manager, the Director, Employee and Labour Relations and the City Solicitor remain confidential in its entirety as it contains advice which is subject to solicitor-client privilege.

November 9, 2017 at 6:08 p.m. - Speaker Nunziata advised that City Council had completed its closed session consideration of Item EX28.21 headed "Results of Interest Arbitration with the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association, Local 3888, International Association of Fire Fighters (I.A.F.F.)". No votes were taken during closed session. City Council would now recess for its scheduled break and resume the public debate in open session.

During our closed session a motion was circulated but not put to a vote.

The Solicitor has advised that Council has the discretion to decide whether it wants to vote on the matter in closed session or in public.

If the motion is considered in closed session, there will be a public vote the instruction and decide on the timing of release of the confidential instructions.

So now, if someone wants to propose to vote on the instructions in closed session then I will accept a motion to go in closed session at this time.

Otherwise we will proceed to public debate.
