City Council Decision

City Council on April 24, 25, 26 and 27, 2018, adopted the following:

 

1. City Council direct the Executive Director, Municipal Licensing and Standards, in consultation with the Medical Officer of Health, who has authority to declare appropriate high temperature days on which landlords can be permitted to turn off heat and, if applicable, turn on air conditioning in conjunction with the existing heat alert system.

 

2. City Council request the Medical Officer of Health to establish the Heat Relief Network to promote locally available air-conditioned public spaces, as described in a presentation from Municipal Licensing and Standards to the February 9, 2018 meeting of the Tenant Issues Committee.

That Councillor Josh Matlow be permitted to add to the agenda of today's meeting an urgent Motion without Notice concerning: 

 

Protecting Toronto's Tenants from Extreme Heat


Reason for Urgency:

 

This Motion is urgent due to the possibility of warmer temperatures occurring prior to the next meeting of Council.

That City Council amend MM39.32 Recommendation 1 so that it now reads as follows:

 

1. City Council authorize the Medical Officer of Health, in consultation with the direct the Executive Director, Municipal Licensing and Standards, in consultation with the Medical Officer of Health, who has authority to declare appropriate high temperature days  to establish Heat Alert Days on which landlords can be directed permitted to turn off heat and, if applicable, turn on air conditioning in conjunction with the existing heat alert system.
