City Council Decision

City Council on June 29 and 30, 2020, adopted the following:

 

1. City Council request the Government of Ontario to develop and release publicly a comprehensive plan to ensure child care access for the 60 to 70 percent of families who will be unable to find a space due to reduced capacity of centres.
 

2. City Council request the Government of Ontario to continue to provide stable and ongoing provincial funding for child care centres for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, which will ensure that they can continue to operate at reduced capacity in line with the provincial guidelines.  
 

3. City Council request the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada to develop a National Child Care Strategy to make child care more accessible for all families, which is essential to economic recovery.

Motion to Waive Referral (Carried)

Speaker Nunziata advised Council that the provisions of Chapter 27, Council Procedures, require that Motion MM22.18 be referred to the Executive Committee. A two-thirds vote of the Council Members present is required to waive referral.

That City Council amend Recommendation 3 in Item MM22.18 by deleting the words "low- and moderate-income families" so that it reads as follows:
